We're posting September's prompt up a day early to give you a jump-start on the competition! Because...
it's the Versus Meme!

+ Pick a character/pairing, any character/pairing you want.
+ Pick a competitive scenario - i.e.: 'Kakashi enters Pakkun in the Konoha Dog Show.' 'Naruto vs Sasuke - the epic battle finally happens!' or 'The Sannin play Strip Poker' Anything that puts one person against another, against the clock, against the environment, etc., goes.

+ Your post most be ANONYMOUS.
+ For organizational purposes, please post prompt pairings/keywords in the subject of your comment.
+ Play nice. This should be fun for ALL.
+ For every request you make try to fill out AT LEAST one request. Give and you shall receive (and the meme shall live on!).
+ Do not CLAIM prompts. Any given prompts can be filled infinitely, so you needn't claim the one you're writing, out of fear someone else will write for it as well. The more the merrier!
+ Make sure to watch the threads you start, so you'll know when your request has been filled/if any anon has replied asking for a clarification of your prompt.
+ Feel free to rec this far and wide!

* PLEASE DO NOT "SECOND" PROMPTS. SECONDING INEVITABLY LEADS TO FICS NOT GETTING WRITTEN. 'Seconded' comments will be deleted. No questions asked.

If you have any questions or concerns, please LJ message one of the new mods (thisl0ser0mega19x or anat_astarte) not [info]modpuppet !

Kabuto vs Sakura - med school AU

Both are med students, and vying for the top spot in Tsunade's class. Who gets it? And who's going to need a medic when they're done fighting with the other over it?

Re: Kabuto vs Sakura - med school AU

Five minutes after nine, Dr. Tsunade Senju walked into the small group room. “I trust you all read the cases ahead of time,” she said, and most of the students giggled nervously in response. Sakura stayed quiet - there was no way she hadn’t done the required reading. She’d begged and begged to be placed in Dr. Senju’s section, and even then she was only allowed in because her last name was close enough. Instead, her gaze zeroed in on the one other student that was, like her, out of place in the alphabetical group from Hyuga to Kin. Yakushi Kabuto sat smirking from his seat across from her, at the front of the room. She wondered what he’d done to get in.

“Can anyone summarize the first case?” asked Dr. Senju.

Sakura raised her hand a fraction after Kabuto did. He started rattling it off, “Chief complaint of weakness and dizziness in a 55 year old man, of a gradual onset over two months. Family history was positive for anemia...” She glared at him.

When Kabuto was finished, Dr. Senju asked about possible diagnoses. Sakura raised her hand, and Kabuto opened his hands slightly, as if to say he let her have it. “Given the megoblastic anemia and the hypersegmented neutophils, it’s most likely a B12 or folate deficiency. Folate deficiency doesn’t present with neurologic findings, so most likely, it’s a B12 deficiency.”

“Good. However, although you’re right that the classic presentation of folate deficiency doesn’t include neurologic symptoms, patients don’t follow textbooks. What other tests should be done?” said Dr. Senju.

“You can check the methylmalonate levels, and once the B12 deficiency has been established as the cause, screen for antibodies against the parietal cells or intrinsic factor to check for pernicious anemia,” answered Kabuto.

Sakura and Kabuto continued trading answers for the rest of the session. At first, Sakura was worried about appearing like too much of a gunner but when she realized Dr. Senju was encouraging the competition, she started being more aggressive.

“Shouldn’t we also worry about hemolytic urecemic syndrome?” she asked after Kabuto gave a differential diagnosis. (“That’s usually seen more in the pediatric population, but it’s a good thought to send for a test for the e. coli toxin”) “Actually, the V617F mutation is the most common one,” she corrected when Kabuto was a little too eager.

After the section, Kabuto gave her a little salute in acknowledgement. She smiled. It was the most fun she’d had in months.

Re: Kabuto vs Sakura - med school AU

Thank you!

OP here

Wasn't expecting it to turn out so friendly in the end! Nice job on the differentials, anon.

Re: OP here

Thanks! I kind of went that way because Kabuto's one of those people who seems to like putting up the "nice" facade (the better to take you out later, of course).

Re: Kabuto vs Sakura - med school AU

.....I feel sorry for the rest of the class. XD Oh well, survival of the fittest! \o/

Re: Kabuto vs Sakura - med school AU
